Sadhana means quest in sanskrit and also refers to practice in english. One of the goals of yoga is to be less swayed by our senses. By practicing Iyengar Yoga we promote our minds to be calm and still like a smooth unrippled lake. In Light on the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali by B.K.S. Iyengar Sutra II. 46 sthira sukham asanam , “Asana is perfect firmness of body, steadiness of intelligence and benevolence of spirit.” Asana means pose in sanskrit but performing asana is different than a pose as B.K.S. Iyengar explains, “whatever asana is performed, it should be done with a feeling of firmness, steadiness and endurance in the body ; goodwill in the intelligence of the head, and awareness and delight in the intelligence of the heart.” We need these attributes to cultivate a healthy and nourishing practice.
