Using Props

The use of props is an important part of the Iyengar method. There are many different props that were invented by BKS Iyengar. The ones typically used in classes include: blankets, blocks, and straps. Blankets are used for seated poses to help the truck lift.  Blocks are introduced when learning standing poses as they help students achieve the correct shape of the pose. Straps can be used to help connect different parts of the body without compromising the integrity of one’s posture. Using the props in supportive way can help the pose “feel better” for practitioners.
