Practicing Yoga poses can be a way to release stiffness in muscles and joints. For a muscle group to extend one or more muscles must contract. For instance, when we draw our knee caps upward, the quadriceps are engaged. When the frontal thigh contracts the back of thigh can release. In the picture below the incredible length in the hamstrings are needed. In order for the pose to happen the knee caps must be drawn upwards for the quadriceps to engage. By working with our bodies in this manner we can activate places that may not otherwise receive activity. Interest to learn more? Join a class here.
