Mother of All

“Fully Supported All Limbs Pose” also known to many as shoulder stand  is the Mother of all poses as written in BKS Iyengar’s Light on Yoga (LOY). Learning Shoulder Stand requires effort and “tapas” a burning zeal to gain stability. At first one may only stay for a few moments and gradually students build their time. Once one can be in the pose with some ease, the nervous system profoundly quiets down. Being inverted brings blood flow to heart, neck, and head with the help of gravity. BKS Iyengar explains this pose in LOY, “As a mother strives for harmony and happiness in the home, so this asana strives for the harmony and happiness of the human system.”
