September is yoga month according to the Department of Health and Wellness since 2008. Usually one may think of going back to school and the changing of the seasons from late summer to early fall. It is also time to recognize your yogic activities and efforts. Make time for Iyengar yoga everyday whether it is through personal Iyengar Yoga practice, attending an Iyengar yoga session with a Certified Iyengar Yoga Instructor, reading Iyengar Yoga books, or chanting mantras. One of the goals of yoga is to still the fluctuations of the mind. In order to achieve this aim B.K.S. Iyengar translates Sutra I.14 from the Light on Yoga Sutras of Patanjali as “Long, uninterrupted, alert practice is the firm foundation for restraining the fluctuations.” Really there is no time like the present to practice. Yoga Swami Svatmarama addressed the need for practice in the Hatha Yoga Pradipika ” Anyone who actively practices yoga, be he young, or even very old, sickly or weak can (obtain success). Yoga success is not obtained by reading textbooks. Nor is success reached by wearing saffron robes or by conversing on the subject of yoga, but only through tireless practice. This is the secret of success. There is no doubt about it. ”
